Ipatimup - Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology is a health sciences institution of the University of Porto that focuses on oncology research and health promotion and education.
Here I had the opportunity to work at the Cancer Prevention Unit with a talented team of creatives and scientific researchers, all sharing a common goal: to develop a health education TV series that would promote behaviour changes within everyone's reach, to prevent cancer and other non-communicable diseases.
This is how 2’ Minutos para mudar de vida (2' Life changing minutes) was born, an anthology series about health choices - in which I am a co-author and played multiple creative roles - where each episode tells a different story about lifestyle choices with proven impact on health and disease. It is the first fiction series about cancer prevention and had its 20 episodes aired in prime time on RTP1.
Creative Roles in TV Series
Featured Episodes
Nódulo na mama, motivo para alarme?
In this episode, the iconic 'La Fornarina' painting is temporarily removed from its gallery for a closer examination of a suspicious spot on her breast. This unexpected event triggers a buzz among the other paintings, leading to a thought-provoking exploration of whether the lump could pose a genuine threat. As the characters grapple with the uncertainty, the narrative unfolds to raise awareness about breast health and the importance of early detection.
As the Animation Director for this episode, I drove the creative vision, managing the animation process and taking charge of the character animation, to make sure it resonated authentically with the storyline and emotional beats. Additionally, my roles extended to editing, visual effects & post-production.
The episode was awarded with a place in the official selection of the Pariscience Science Film Festival 2020.
Porque tens que te meter no meu prazer de fumar?
This episode holds a special place in the series: it was the pilot that set the tone and ground for the innovative narrative promoting healthy behaviours.
In this narrative, we see a family's struggle against an ever-present nightmare. The father's relentless attachment to his cigar overshadows Christmas dinners, creating a stressful environment. However, a glimpse of hope emerges when a potential solution comes to light.

As co-editor, I had the chance to craft sequences to enhance and shape its narrative pace. Additionally, I led the visual effects & post-production efforts, enhancing the episode with visual elements.

Mais um copinho?
The episode explores the intersection of political campaigns and public health. As the Estado Novo unveils its campaign slogan, "Drinking wine is giving bread to 1 million Portuguese," a wave of concern resonates among anti-fascist movements who launch a counter-campaign to raise awareness of the potential dangers of alcohol consumption. As these competing narratives unfold, a compelling question emerges: which campaign will come out victorious?
My contributions to this episode were several. I took the responsibility of designing the posters used by the anti-fascist movement, a key visual element that encapsulates the essence of their counter-campaign.
Additionally, in the field of visual effects & post-production, I ensured a seamless integration of elements, further enhancing the episode's narrative.
National Health Campaign
The series is a centrepiece of a comprehensive national health campaign, strategically tailored for diverse platforms, including television, web, mobile, social media, classrooms, and in-person sessions, ensuring inclusive engagement with all audiences. To maintain a consistent and recognisable presence across all formats, I developed a distinctive branding, which served as the basis for designing a wide range of multimedia resources to amplify the campaign's message and enhance its effectiveness.
The contributions included:
Videos for Online Course: Editing and post-production of audiovisual content to enhance the learning experience of the online course, guaranteeing its engaging and informative content.
Social Media: Crafting visually appealing social media content, optimised for sharing and engagement, expanding the campaign's reach across various platforms.
Website and App UI Design: Design of the user interface for the campaign's website and app, providing a cohesive and user-friendly digital experience.
Design of Teaching Materials: Graphic design of educational resources, making sure they are effective for both in-person and e-learning settings.
Awards
The success of the series was recognised with several international and national awards such as Telly Awards, Ciência Viva Media Award, Public Prize at MEDEA Awards 2020, the Special Jury Prize of Casa das Ciências, selected for Pariscience Festival and Health for All Film Festival (from the World Health Organization), and was a finalist at the National Animation Award 2020.
